The Clayton Art Commission (CAC) is installing a site-specific sculpture by internationally-recognized artist Alice Aycock in front of The Center of Clayton.
Aycock’s sculpture, titled “The Uncertainty of Ground State Fluctuations (for Clayton, Missouri),” was commissioned by the CAC and is owned by the city of Clayton. Funding was provided by Clayton, local organizations and business and more than 60 individual donors. It is Clayton’s first commissioned public artwork.
“It’s tremendously exciting for both Clayton and the larger St. Louis region to have a work by an artist of this caliber,” Clayton’s Mayor Linda Goldstein said in a statement. “As communities across the country ramp up their efforts to increase cultural amenities for citizens and visitors, we feel the significance of this project clearly demonstrates the commitment we have to animating public spaces and fostering support behind the initiative.”
Aycock’s work has been featured around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum and the Staatsgalerie in Stuttgart, Germany.
