The Emerson Corporation is issuing call for entries to artists or artist collaborations interested in submitting a proposal to create unique artwork for 1 or more locations in the new Auditorium Lobby at Emerson Corporate Headquarters. Work in all media will be considered. The space calls for a piece of considerable scale to be permanently installed and visually able to stand the test of time. Completion of the new auditorium is scheduled for January 2008. The total maximum art budget amount, inclusive of all costs for artists and art consultant fees, is $500,000 to $750,000 for any and all commissions for this project. This budget includes any and all materials, shipping, installation, and artist expenses (including travel). Emerson would prefer the work to be commissioned, but would not object to installing an existing piece, if appropriate. The primary location for the artwork is in the lobby between the entrance doors to the auditorium. Horizontal slabs of Verde San Fran polished granite will be the backdrop for the artwork. The wall is approximately 12 x 37 ft. There will be multiple vantage points from which to view the artwork: from the lobby and from the exterior patio. The installation may be one or a combination of paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, and/or video work in any medium. The artwork can be installed or located in front of the wall. In addition, there are secondary locations for artwork within the facility. In collaboration with the artist, Emerson and the architect will provide all pertinent project information required for the proposal. Interested artists should submit a current professional biography and résumé, artist statement, names and contact information of 3 individuals with whom the applicant has worked or who have commissioned the applicant’s work in the past, up to 10 digital images, an annotated image list corresponding with the order of the images to be shown (include artist’s name, title of work, medium, size, and if commissions, the date of artwork start and completion, location, budget, and commissioning agency). Include an SASE for the return of materials. No articles, catalogues, or original works will be reviewed. The application deadline is October 15, 2007. Mail applications to Shearburn Gallery, 4735 McPherson Ave., Saint Louis, MO 63108. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.
