The City of Oakland, California has announced the release of a Request for Qualifications for the opportunity to design, fabricate and install public art to be integrated into the new East Oakland Sports Center at Ira Jinkins Park in Oakland, California. The project is open to professional artists residing in California, Oregon and Washington. The center will include a new indoor pool, fitness center and lobby area as the first phase of an extensive planned sports complex for residents of East Oakland and beyond.
Preferred Artwork Sites include treatments to the glass wall of the indoor pool, wall and ceiling treatments throughout the site, and/or the perforated metal sunscreen on the east and south exterior walls of the pool building. Artwork treatments might include silk-screened images/text/design, perforation designs, or other approaches.
Artists working in all visual media are welcome to apply. Artists who have not previously worked in glass but are interested in using a glass medium in this project will be considered; the Public Art Program has the option of pairing the selected artist with an experienced glass art fabricator to assist with execution of the project. The budget is $150,000 all inclusive. Apply through CaFÉ™
