Olympia, WA – deadline: October 18, 2007

The City of Olympia is seeking an experienced artist to translate neighborhood issues, identity and metaphor into sculptural components within a new roundabout planned for the intersection of Boulevard and Log Cabin Road. This road improvement project will also bring sidewalks and bike lanes to what was a country road flanked by ditches, increasing the potential for families to walk to area schools and large community park. We envision this public art project to engage viewers in all of three modes and speeds of travel: pedestrian, bicycle, and automobile, both as a welcoming city entrance for newcomers, and as a meaningful landmark for commuters who will pass by it 2+ times daily. The budget is $61,000 plus travel expenses.
